Paying for Genetic Services

Locate medical experts and find information on insurance coverage and financial assistance for risk management, treatment and follow up care.

Most insurance companies will pay for genetic counseling and testing with low, or no out-of-pocket costs for people who meet certain criteria. The cost of genetic counseling and testing varies based on several factors:

  • which laboratory performs the test
  • whether a previously-identified mutation exists in the family
  • which gene mutations are included in the test

Financial assistance is often available to cover testing for those who cannot afford it.

You can view a list of labs offering genetic testing services and their financial assistance programs.
