Mastectomy Decision Support Study
About the Study
The purpose of this study is to get participants’ opinions on the content, format, and design of educational materials that inform about the emotional consequences of undergoing a mastectomy. Eligible participants will be asked to complete a consent form and a brief survey, and to participate in a 1-hour Zoom interview. During the interview, we will ask participants to share feedback on some materials that we have designed. Participants will receive a $30 Amazon gift card in appreciation for their time.
What the Study Involves
Participants enrolled in this study will need to do the following:
- Fill out an eligibility screener (5 minutes)
- Sign an online consent form and fill out a brief questionnaire (5 minutes)
- Participate in a 1-hour virtual interview (with the camera on)
- Receive a $30 Amazon gift card in appreciation of their time

Our eligibility criteria include:
- Be female
- Be between 18-50 years of age
- Live in the United States
- Be able to read and speak English
- Have access to a laptop, computer or tablet, and
- Have had a mastectomy in the last three years (2021 or later) OR are currently considering a mastectomy (e.g., due to a family history or genetic testing results such as , , )
The study is not open to individuals who:
- Are not female
- Are not between the ages of 18-50 years old
- Do not live in the United States
- Cannot read and speak English
- Do not have access to a laptop, computer or tablet
- Have not had a bliateral mastectomy in the last three years (2021 or later)
- Are not considering a mastectomy
