About the Study

This study will explore how “dear family letters” influence understanding of genetic risk and cascade testing among individuals and families affected by hereditary cancer. A “dear family letter” is a letter written by a healthcare provider or genetic counselor that explains a family member’s genetic test result and encourages relatives to consider genetic counseling or testing. These letters are often shared within families to help communicate information about inherited cancer risk and next steps.

What the Study Involves

Participation involves a one-time virtual interview lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. During the interview, participants will be asked about their experience receiving the letter, how it shaped their understanding of genetic risk and cascade testing, how it affected communication with family members, and what could be improved to better support families in the future. Eligible participants who complete the interview will be compensated with a $50 gift card.
