Exploring How BRCA+ Previvors Experience Joy

About the Study

After learning of their BRCA+ status, many individuals experience a range of emotions, including anxiety, grief, and uncertainty. However, joy is an aspect of many people’s stories that is not typically explored in research. The purpose of this study is to characterize the lived experiences of individuals who do not have a history of cancer after learning of their BRCA+ status through interviews.

What the Study Involves

This study involves a 5-minute demographic questionnaire and a 1-hour web-based interview.

To participate: begin by taking this questionnaire.

People who are:

• Age 18 or older
• Located in the United States
• Speak English
• Have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation
• Are a previvor (no personal history of cancer)

People who:

• Are under age 18
• Do not have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation
• Have a diagnosis of cancer
• Discovered their BRCA mutation status through Direct-to-Consumer testing
