The Elsie Study: Survey Investigating Disparities in LGBTQ+ People with Cancer

About the Study

The Elsie Study at the University of Minnesota is looking into improving how LGBTQ+ people are included in cancer research studies. We want to hear from everyone: those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and those who don't identify with particular labels. We especially want to hear and uplift perspectives from people with different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. 

What the Study Involves

Participants will complete this online eligibility survey that will take about 1-4 minutes. Click here for the eligibility survey. 

If selected to participate, participants will: 

• Take a second survey, approximately 45-60 minutes, that can be done at a day and time that works for you. We will ask questions about your experience with participating in cancer research studies and your experience during treatment. Participants will be emailed the main survey after determining eligibility.
• A random sample of some participants may be invited to complete a third follow-up survey, which will take about 10 minutes.
• For additional compensation, participants may be invited to answer additional optional questions about their experience with substances such as cannabis, alcohol, and tobacco.

You can take part in this study if you: 

• Reside within the United States 
• Have been diagnosed with cancer 
• Are 18 years of age or older

You will not be considered eligible for this study if you:

• Do not reside within the United States 
• Have not been diagnosed with cancer 
• Are not 18 years of age or older
