The purpose of the UNDERSTANDING Study is to better understand the factors and underlying mechanisms affecting access to genetic testing and genetic counseling for Latina women who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and reside in California. We also aim to understand the social needs of Latina breast cancer survivors and how these influence their access to breast cancer diagnostic and treatment services.
We would like to invite you to complete a confidential phone survey conducted by researchers from the University of California, Davis. The survey is open to Latina breast cancer patients and survivors diagnosed with breast cancer within the past five years in CA. You can visit our page if you are interested in learning more about our study, checking your eligibility, and providing your contact information to our study team.
This is a confidential phone survey that will take approximately 45 minutes to complete and will include questions about demographics, socioeconomic background, and personal and family histories related to cancer. Participants will first complete a brief online eligibility survey. If eligible, a study coordinator will contact them directly to schedule the phone survey. Participants will receive a $30 gift card for completing the phone survey.
Individuals who meet specific cancer personal and family history criteria will be invited to participate in a 1-hour in-depth interview with our bilingual genetic counselor. Those who participate in the interview will receive a $50 gift.
