About the Study
Researchers at Rutgers University are conducting a fully online study to better understand how genes affect your risk of breast cancer. Your participation can help researchers discover new genetic factors that improve risk prediction, prevention, and future treatment options.
While genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 are known genetic causes of breast cancer, they only explain about 25% of inherited genetic risk. Researchers believe many additional genetic variants remain undiscovered.
To make these discoveries, we need participants from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. A more diverse research community can lead to better science and improved care for everyone.
No office visit is required.

What the Study Involves
Participation is simple and takes approximately 20 minutes.
You'll:
- Complete a brief online health questionnaire.
- Receive a saliva collection kit by mail.
- Return your saliva sample using the prepaid mailer.
There are no in-person visits required.
Participants will also receive monthly study updates and information about their genetic ancestry at no cost.

For genetic research to benefit everyone, it must include everyone.
Most genetic studies have focused on one group of people, limiting what researchers know about breast cancer risk in many other populations. Every participant helps make breast cancer research more representative of all communities, supporting better risk prediction, earlier prevention, and improved treatments for future generations.
