Interviews with Young Women with a BRCA Mutation About Their Breast Cancer Risk Management Experiences

About the Study

This research study focuses on the experience of young women who found out that they have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutation. We are particularly interested in young women’s emotional experiences when considering or engaging in strategies to manage increased breast cancer risk, (e.g., chemoprevention pills, regular screenings, or risk-reducing surgeries). Eligible participants will be asked to complete a consent form and a brief survey, and to participate in a 1-hour Zoom interview with the camera on. Participants will receive a $30 Amazon gift card in appreciation for their time.

What the Study Involves

Participants enrolled in this study will need to do the following:

• Fill out a survey to determine eligibility (5 minutes)
• Sign an online consent form and fill out a brief survey (5 minutes)
• Participate in a 1-hour interview on Zoom (with the camera on)
• Receive a $30 Amazon gift card in appreciation of their time

Our eligibility criteria include:

• being female
• being between 18-35 years of age
• reside in the United States
• have never been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer
• have received genetic testing results that indicate a mutation on a BRCA gene (BRCA1 and/or BRCA2)

People who:

• are not female
• are under 18 or over 35 years of age
• do not reside in the United States
• have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer
• do not have genetic testing results that indicate a mutation on a BRCA gene (BRCA1 and/or BRCA2)
