My journey

I was in pain for years and finally had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and removed a large cycst on my ovary right after my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She had breast cancer 23 years ago as well. We got genetically tested and found out we are BRCA2 positive. So I had another surgery to remove my ovaries I had kept in the hysterectomy surgery. I also had really bad endometriosis. I then decided to have a double mastectomy to reduce my risk of breast cancer. I was referred by my genetic counselor to a breast surgeon and plastic surgeon and used them to perform the surgery. I was told by my plastic surgeon that I was a good candidate for nipple sparing. I am six months post surgery and I would really like to connect with others in my shoes. I have so many questions and I wish I had done more research about the nipple sparing part. I am preparing for another surgery once I am recovered enough from this last surgery.

The hardest part of my journey

Making the decision to have a double mastectomy and having complications from that. Digesting the large amount of cancer that is in my family.

If I could do it over again

I would have researched more about this last surgery.

My participation with FORCE

I have wanted to go to a meeting and connect with others live, but I have not had a chance. I have read many articles and appreciate the force community and would like to get more involved.
