New imaging technology shows promise in detecting of spread of prostate cancer

A new imaging technique is currently being tested to see if it can detect the spread of prostate cancer sooner than standard imaging. Two clinical trials show that the new technique can detect the spread of prostate cancer in men who are newly diagnosed and in men whose cancer returns after treatment. (10/16/20)

- NCT03860987: Neoadjuvant Androgen Deprivation Therapy Combined With Enzalutamide and Abiraterone Using Multiparametric MRI and 18FDCFPyL PET/CT in Newly Diagnosed Prostate Cancer. In this study researchers will combine abiraterone and enzalutamide to see if there is a better way to treat prostate cancer. They also want to study a new radiotracer called 18F-DCFPyL, with the help of a scan called positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) to see if there is a better way to detect prostate cancer.
- NCT03181867: 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT in High Risk and Recurrent Prostate Cancer. Current methods of imaging prostate cancer are limited. Researchers want to see if a radiotracer called 18F-DCFPyL can identify prostate cancer in patients who have a high risk of cancer spreading outside the prostate or who have signs of recurrent cancer after treatment.
- NCT03439033: Comparison Study of PET/CT or PET/MRI Imaging to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Alone in Men With Prostate Cancer. This is a study primarily comparing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) alone to Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/MRI using an radioactive tracer among men with advanced prostate cancer or whose cancer has returned. Potential subjects who cannot undergo MRI may undergo PET/CT instead.

- NCT02282137: 68Ga-PSMA PET-CT Scan for Diagnosis and Management of Prostate Cancer (PSMA). This study looks at 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET-CT scan works to detect tumor location and size in patients with suspected or confirmed prostate cancer, as well as prostate cancer that may have come back.
- NCT04030338: Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) PET Scans to Find Prostate Cancer. The purpose of this study is to find out if PET scans using PSMA are accurate and better at finding prostate cancer than the usual methods.
- NCT04716725: 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET for the Diagnosis of Metastatic Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer. This trial aims to see whether using 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET scans may help doctors learn more about where disease is located in the body.
- NCT04777071: An Investigational Scan (68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT) for the Imaging of Prostate Cancer. This trial studies how well 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT scan works in imaging patients with prostate cancer.
- NCT04867603: Digital PET/CT Using [Ga-68]PSMA for Characterization of Prostate Lesions. This study will evaluate a radioactive diagnostic drug called Gallium-68 Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen ([Ga-68]PSMA) to tell if prostate abnormalities are cancer.
- NCT05160597: Image-Guided (68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT) Prostate Biopsy for the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer in Men With Prior Negative/Inconclusive Biopsy. This study looks at how well an image-guided prostate biopsy using the imaging agent 68Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-11 with a PET/CT scan works in diagnosing prostate cancer in men with a prior negative or inconclusive prostate biopsy.
