Medications to lower , ovarian and primary peritoneal  cancer risk

Often used as birth control, progesterone has been shown to lower the risk for ovarian cancer in both high-risk and average-risk people. Progesterone can have side effects which vary widely based on how the medication is taken. These side effects may include an increased risk for breast cancer and blood clots and weight gain. Young people under the age of 25 may be particularly sensitive to an increased breast cancer risk caused by progesterone found in birth control.

If you are considering medications to lower your risk for ovarian cancer, speak with your doctor to decide whether medication is your best option for managing your risk.
