Three Sisters Fundraiser
The first annual Three Sister Fundraiser for FORCE was a huge success!!! So who are the sisters?
The two eldest sisters, Rose and Eileen, were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Rose being the first with stage 0 DCIS in January and Eileen with stage 3 in August. They had no family background of breast cancer. With the little information they had, they found out that their grandmother and an aunt on their dad's side had possibly died from ovarian cancer. Their breast surgeon suggested genetic testing for the BRCA gene. Eileen was tested and was positive for BRCA1. Rose , Julie (the third sister) and their brother were all tested and were 4 for 4.
With their Three Sister Fundraiser, they were able to raise $2,300 - with $2,000 going to the scholarship fund that allowed them to come to their first conference together in 2010. The plan for the fundraiser was hatched on the plane ride home from Orlando.
In their own words: " We found the conference to be a truly wonderful experience, so we decided to try and give back to this exceptional organization, with the hope that we would be able to fund at least 1 scholarship, for a women who really wanted to attend, but would not be able to without the help of the scholarship program. The support we received from family and friends was truly inspiring! We had a great turn out, with over 100 people attending the open house throughout the day. We were also blessed with some great vendors including, Simply Sheets, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Jockey, Arbonne, and Michi bags, to name a few. Next years fundraiser is already in the works!! We have graciously been offered a local school to use as the venue. We are hoping for an even bigger and better turnout in 2011."
