My journey

I'm 54 years old single African American male, the 11th of 12 children in which one(brother) passed from brain cancer in 2012. My father passed of lung cancer and my mother passed away in 2013, (non-cancer related). I'm the only one out of my sibling to have a gene mutations that we know of so far. The rest have yet to be tested.

My breast cancer comes from my father's side of the family. He had 9 siblings and 7 one of them died from some of cancer including him. I recently was tested in December 2014 for the BRCA gene and discovered I was negative, but was positive for MRE11A and NBN.

The hardest part of my journey

Having my family watch me endure so much pain and suffering. It was harder on them than it was on me. I grew from it.

If I could do it over again

I would've asked more questions from the very begining. Especially from the doctors.

My participation with FORCE

This will be my first FORCE conference. I'm hoping to share what I learn with my family, friends and community.

Other thoughts

Just that Men also get breast cancer and the world needs to be more aware of this.
