Session: Research advocacy
Speaker: Mary Scroggins
This 90-minute concurrent session will focus on ways that people can participate in and help guide the research process. Mary Scroggins will discuss:
- why consumers should be engaged at all levels of the research process
- ethical concerns and considerations for research and clinical trials
- how advocacy groups and individuals can promote and educate others about research
- different types of opportunities for consumers to participate in research at the local and national level
This session is appropriate for:
- people with a BRCA mutation or hereditary cancer in the family
- family, friends, relatives, and loved ones of people affected by hereditary cancer
- patient advocates, support group facilitators, and people who work with survivors and people
at high-risk for cancer
- health care providers who care for people and families with hereditary cancer
