Session: Post-mastectomy recovery and rehabilitation

Speaker: Amy Curran Baker, MA

This 90-minute concurrent session will focus on post-mastectomy rehabilitation and after care.
Ms. Curran Baker will discuss:

• what questions to ask your physician when making decisions about mastectomy and reconstruction
• how to prepare physically and emotionally for mastectomy
• common recovery issues patients face within the first days after surgery
• how to manage activities of daily living during the first weeks after surgery
• mastectomy after-care issues such as scar massage, implant massage, exercise, being fitted for a prosthesis
• how to identify issues with healing and post-mastectomy complications

This session is appropriate for:

• women considering or who need to undergo mastectomy
• women who have already had mastectomy
• parents/relatives/loved ones of women who are considering or have undergone mastectomy
• health care providers who provide care to women who have BRCA or hereditary cancer
  in the family
• social workers/mental health care professionals who treat women with BRCA mutations or
  hereditary cancer in the family
