Session: Surgical options for breast cancer risk reduction

This 90-minute concurrent session will focus on mastectomy
to reduce
risk for breast cancer
or as treatment for breast cancer, and the
different types of mastectomy available.
Dr. Stolier will discuss:
- lumpectomy vs. mastectomy in women with hereditary breast cancer
- recovery from mastectomy
- sentinel node biopsy with prophylactic mastectomy
- residual breast cancer risk after prophylactic mastectomy in BRCA women
- breast screening after mastectomy
This session is appropriate for:
- women considering or who need to undergo mastectomy
- parents/relatives/loved ones of women considering or who need to undergo mastectomy
- health care providers who provide care to women who have BRCA or hereditary cancer
in the family
- social workers/mental health care professionals who treat women with BRCA mutations or
hereditary cancer in the family
