Session: Hereditary cancer and your legal rights

This 90-minute concurrent session will focus on the legal rights of patients and consumers with regards to health care, employment, and insurance issues. Ms. Prince will discuss:
- insurance coverage of preventive services
- legal protections covered by GINA
- other protections against genetic discrimination in health and employment
- HIPAA and other protections
- understanding the new Health Care Reform laws
- Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act and your legal rights for reconstruction and post-breast surgery care
- how to approach insurance denials and appeals
- examples of GINA cases/situations
This session is appropriate for:
- people with a BRCA mutation or hereditary cancer in the family
- cancer survivors and previvors
- spouses, partners, and significant others of people with a BRCA mutation or hereditary
cancer in the family
- patient advocates, support group facilitators, and people who work with survivors, people
with a BRCA mutation, and people with hereditary cancer in the family
- health care providers who provide care to survivors, people with a BRCA mutation, and
