Session: Focus on BRCA and triple-negative breast cancers

This 90-minute concurrent session will provide information specifically for breast cancer survivors
with triple-negative cancer (er/pr negative and Her2neu negative)
and or breast cancer survivors
who carry a BRCA mutation or whose cancer is hereditary. The session will provide information for
those who are newly diagnosed and those in active treatment for breast cancer. Drs. Arun and Telli will discuss:
- emerging information about triple-negative breast cancer and how hereditary forms may different from other types
- therapies that may specifically benefit breast cancer patients with triple-negative breast cancers
- therapies that may specifically benefit breast cancer patients with BRCA mutations
- clinical trials for new agents that may benefit survivors with triple-negative breast cancers
- clinical trials for new agents that may benefit breast cancer survivors with BRCA mutations
- survival, prognosis, and long-term quality-of-life issues specific to triple-negative and hereditary breast cancer survivors
- risk for second primary breast cancer and risk-management options for breast cancer survivors who have chosen lumpectomy and benefits and limitations of mastectomy vs. surveillance
- risk for ovarian cancer after breast cancer and risk-management options in breast cancer survivors
This session is appropriate for:
- breast cancer survivors with triple-negative breast cancer and/or a BRCA mutation
- relatives/loved ones/caretakers for people with breast cancer
- patient advocates, support group facilitators, and people who work with
breast cancer survivors
- health care providers who treat breast cancer survivors
- social workers/mental health care professionals who treat people with breast cancer
