Session: Breast cancer surveillance and chemoprevention

This 90-minute concurrent session will focus on high-risk breast surveillance and chemoprevention options for breast cancer risk management and reduction.
Drs. Yoon and Seewaldt will discuss:
- current guidelines for breast cancer screening in high-risk women
- sensitivity and specificity of different breast cancer screening modalities
- mammography, MRI, ultrasound and other imaging techniques
- Evidence of benefit of Breast Self Exam for high-risk women and proper technique for performing BSE
- Emerging technologies for Breast cancer Screening
- chemoprevention options available for breast cancer risk reduction
- benefits and limitations of breast chemoprevention
- chemoprevention options available through clinical trials
- research on emerging and new chemoprevention medications
This session is appropriate for:
- women who carry a BRCA mutation or who are high risk for breast cancer
- breast cancer survivors concerned about risk in their remaining breast tissue
- spouses, partners, loved ones of cancer survivors or previvors
- health care providers who provide care to survivors and previvors
- social workers/mental health care professionals who treat survivors and previvors
