My journey

I have always known that I had a strong history of cancer in my family. My maternal great grandmother and grandmother both had breast and ovarian cancer. When my mother's test results came back positive my sister and I both decided to get tested. I am very thankful that only I came back positive and even though we are still going through the beginnings of this my sister has already been a big support to my mom and I. I am currently looking into the prophylactic options as well as surveillance.

The hardest part of my journey

I very recently found out the result of my testing so besides making doctors appointments to speak with a few specialists I have not made any decisions yet. I expect that when the time comes, that will be the hardest part of my journey.

If I could do it over again

In regards to getting tested, I would make the same decision. I am on the young side (22) so I have time before certain decisions need to be made which gives me more time to really think about what I want and I am grateful for that.

My participation with FORCE

I have found it very helpful to see what decisions others have made and to hear how they are dealing with it. It reminds me that I am not alone and that there are other women going through exactly what I am.
