My journeyI have always known that I had a strong history of cancer in my family. My maternal great grandmother and grandmother both had breast and ovarian cancer. When my mother's test results came back positive my sister and I both decided to get tested. I am very thankful that only I came back positive and even though we are still going through the beginnings of this my sister has already been a big support to my mom and I. I am currently looking into the prophylactic options as well as surveillance. The hardest part of my journeyI very recently found out the result of my testing so besides making doctors appointments to speak with a few specialists I have not made any decisions yet. I expect that when the time comes, that will be the hardest part of my journey. If I could do it over againIn regards to getting tested, I would make the same decision. I am on the young side (22) so I have time before certain decisions need to be made which gives me more time to really think about what I want and I am grateful for that. My participation with FORCEI have found it very helpful to see what decisions others have made and to hear how they are dealing with it. It reminds me that I am not alone and that there are other women going through exactly what I am. |
