My journey

Found out about my BRCA1+ status a little over 1 year ago (2008).

I was tested because my mother is a 2X survivor of Breast Cancer and tested BRCA1+.

A few members of my family have had Melanoma and prostate cancer. I have NOT had cancer.

I have managed my risk with increased surveillance and a prophylactic nipple-sparing double mastectomy with expanders to begin with and now I have Silicone Implants after reconstructive surgery in April 2009.

The hardest part of my journey

Receiving the results and the weeks after the Mastectomy.

If I could do it over again

Not a thing.

My participation with FORCE

FORCE has been a fabulous resource and support for me, I could not recommend the site or my local group more. I had so many questions, concerns and each and every person was willing to take time out of their lives to talk to me. The site answered a billion, of what felt like, silly questions, and I could help others with their concerns as well. What a wonderful organization.
