My journey

I'm 32, with two kids 11 &5 . I found out that I was Brca 1+ may 9,2013 , after my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and tested + herself. My family history is long and lengthy with cancer from both my grandma and grandpa side of the family.

I had a hysterectomy at 28( partial- left both ovaries), to have to go back last yr and have my left ovary and both tubes removed cause of so many problems, and this yr they will remove the right (10/7/13) since I'm Brca + . I have also opted to do the mastectomy /with reconstruction ( expanders for 6 wks) end of oct/2013. It's all very overwhelming, but the man upstairs is looking out for me ...... So I know everything is going to be ok!

The hardest part of my journey

Finding out I was brca + , the descion to have the surgeries , and the reaction of people when they found out. Also having to deal with my insurance company cause they don't do "PREVENTIVE SURGERIES" ! The stress of knowing that you have something and they wont do anything for you except monitor you Once a yr! plus .....I'm too young to take tamoxifen ( not recommend under 35) . I asked the insurance lady " what do I do" ? "Do I just wait till I get it" ? Her answer was "if you get cancer then this will be covered "! I thought to myself that's great ( the age of when most get breast cancer in my family is 42- 50) . It has been 3 months long months...... thanks to lots of prayers , the man upstairs , great dr's, and one hell of a fight........, finally said they would cover them!!!

If I could do it over again

I have my 1st surgery on oct 7,2013 (getting my last ovary removed) and the mastectomy done at the end of the month. I will let you know when I'm done ! Lol
There's one thing I might have not done if I had to do it again..... Probably not tell anyone till it was all done and over with.

My participation with FORCE

I found force when I was looking for information on the Brca gene. I joined the Phx force, I have gone to a meeting, and will start volunteering to help out with any function that they need help at.
