I orginally had DCIS and radiation but had the nagging feeling I was missing something. I couldn't get my oncologist to listen, so I changed oncologist and had genetic test because of a lack of family history. I was BRCA2 postive. I had a hysterectomy previously but they had left my ovaries. I had my ovaries removed in Oct 2012 and a complete masctectomy in January 2013. Currently still working on reconstruction due to flap surgery and a replacement of an expander.
The hardest part of my journey
Reconstruction had been a long and painful journey.
If I could do it over again
I would not. I have great doctors and have made the right decision for me. I could not have lived with the worry that it would return and be invasive.
My participation with FORCE
I went to a local conference Force was sponsoring before I made my decision where there were many BRAC positive people. I did not feel alone or that I was the only person that had made this decision. It was comforting and supportive as well as infomative.
We all need to speak openly about this. If we can save one life, one mother, sister, wife it is worth every discussion we have about our journey.
