Add your VoiceIf you'd like to add your own story to our Voices of FORCE pages, please complete our Voices of FORCE form. My journeyEven though my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years before me that is not who I got the gene mutation. My father is BRCA2 positive as are a few members of his family on his mother's side. Given my young age of breast cancer the doctor's encouraged me to get tested. Although I was pretty sure I was positive before taking the test. The hardest part of my journeyComing to terms with the upcoming surgeries. It is a daily struggle. If I could do it over againNo, I accept this is my journey and I will travel it. My participation with FORCEI have found a sense of community here and a place to gain knowledge. Other thoughtsDoctor's have never spent time evaluating my father's side of the family, always my mother's. If there is one thing I want people to take away from my experiences is genetics are 50% mother and 50% father. Evaluating both sides of your family are very important. |
