My journey

I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer April of 2012.. Knowing my father was positive I agreed to be tested and am also positive. I have had a lumpectomy and am currently going through Chemo treatments. I am a mother to a beautiful 7 year old. I pray everyday this stops with me and she is negative.

I am struggling with having more surgeries. My lumpectomy was my first ever. I lead a very healthy lifestyle and quite frankly I like my parts where they belong. After reading many of the notes from others it is beginning to sink in that I might not have a less invasive option. It makes me sad.

The hardest part of my journey

Telling my daughter I have cancer and creating our new normal

If I could do it over again

Nothing. I have been diligent in self examinations and am proud that I found my cancer first. I am comfortable that I'll make the right decision for me.

Other thoughts

My daughter is my inspiration for staying informed so that when it is her turn to be tested she'll have more options than I do if she is positive

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
