Age: 51 I have found many people and great avenues of support since my BRCA 1 test results. I'm more than my risk… some fun facts about myself: Other favorites? |
Add your VoiceIf you'd like to add your own story to our Voices of FORCE pages, please complete our Voices of FORCE form. My journeyI was given the news that I was BRCA 1 positive 2 years ago. It has been a journey, one that isn't finished yet. I have learned a lot and continue learning. My grandmother died of breast cancer and my mother died of ovarian cancer. I have seen many changes since their deaths and many advancements. I had my hyst with complications that again were a learning experience and hope that I can use that to help others someday. My PBM is to be scheduled in September or October. I hope I can use this to help others the way the people that have gone before me have done for me. The hardest part of my journeyThe hardest part was knowing the family history and not knowing when the news would come or if it would come that I too had cancer. The BRCA testing was a relief to me because it gave me a compass to help decide what steps I wanted to take to put me back in control not the cancer gene. If I could do it over againIt was readily available but if it had been I would have had genetic testing earlier. My participation with FORCEThe support I got from FORCE was a great relief during my hysterectomy. I hope I can help others. |
